DUTIES: Supervises
the functions of the GCRTA Rail Equipment Department. Assigns and monitors
vehicle inspections, defect repairs, quality control, time and attendance and
positive discipline. Schedules rail cars for repairs/maintenance. Provides
information to buyer about rail parts and equipment. Determines necessary
modification to rail cars and equipment. Supervises post-accident vehicle
inspection of cars and monitors the safety of rail cars. Addresses rail
personnel safety issues. Performs random Quality Assurance inspections.
Supervises a number of salary and hourly personnel both directly and indirectly
(the number varies with the duties assigned) to a section, and the section the
supervisor is responsible). Determines the assignment of personnel overtime and
maintains the overtime list and schedules. Directly enters or oversees entry of
employee payroll data through Kronos or other approved employee compensation
device. Acts as a liaison within Rail Equipment Department and between the Rail
District and other GCRTA departments and outside vendors and contractors.
Creates reports and records and enters data using knowledge of computer
programs such as e-mail, Microsoft Office, CITME, and other computer programs.
Supervises the maintenance of inventory for rail equipment and parts.
Supervises vehicle servicers and rail inventory personnel. Oversees special
projects and annual campaigns (e.g., gearbox oil changes, post summer air
conditioning start-up, etc.) Coordinates functions related to vehicle
overhauls, including On-Line testing. Substitutes for Rail Equipment Manager
when necessary. Responds to emergency and abnormal situations that may require
working out of assigned section or work hours. Responds to derailments or other
emergencies. Lead R-66 Rerailment crew in absence of sufficient Bargaining Unit
personnel. Will be required to pass Operations Training within the 1st
year. Operate non-revenue equipment on RTA rail lines. Incumbent must maintain
all necessary training and certification to allow operation of non-revenue
passenger and work rail equipment. This position provides both supervision to
Rail Equipment Department, and support to Rail Operations. This
position is on call, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, unless
prior arrangements have been made with your immediate supervisor. Performs duties of a similar nature. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Applicants
must possess a high school degree or equivalent, including technical courses at
the high school or post high school level covering electrical, electronics or
mechanical systems. An advanced degree is preferred. Applicants must have four (4) years of previous experience
troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining rail cars, rail equipment, or complex
heavy equipment repair shop management and/or heavy industry
production-inventory control experience.
Applicants must also have one-year previous supervisory experience in the field
of rail vehicle or heavy equipment maintenance. Applicants must have excellent
organizational and communication skills (written and oral), and computer skills
(Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access). Applicants must possess
the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a complex changing environment. STARTING
