June 21: RTA discounts Blue Line rides & helps 'Stuff the Bus' at Rally Alley

CLEVELAND -- The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is co-sponsoring this year’s Shaker Heights Arts & Music Festival and hopes you visit that event, along with Larchmere PorchFest music event on Saturday, June 21, with discounted rides on the Blue Line.

On the same day, at Progressive Field, RTA’s Rally Alley bus will host the United Way’s “Stuff the Bus with Books” before the Indians game vs the Detroit Tigers at 7:05 p.m.

Saturday, June 21 events:

More details:

Shaker Heights Arts & Music Festival is co-sponsored by RTA, the City of Shaker Heights, the Ohio Designer Craftsmen, and the Shaker Arts Council, and is supported by Cuyahoga Arts and Culture. The 2014 presenting sponsor is RMS Corporations, which is the lead developer of the vibrant mixed-use Van Aken district, near the festival site. The district redevelopment will be designed to attract residents seeking housing with easy access to public transportation. RTA supports that effort.

The sixth annual Larchmere PorchFest is a one-day free music festival that includes 30 bands on 30 porches. RTA will make the way between the Shaker Heights Arts & Music Festival and the Larchmere PorchFest lighter on the pocket book. Just show up Saturday, June 21 at the Shaker Square North Union Farmers Market between 8 a.m. and noon, while you are picking up some fresh produce - buy a $1 wrist band at the Larchmere PorchFest booth. This wrist band will allow you to ride the Blue Line buses (marked 67R-Blue Line) between Shaker's Arts & Music Festival AND the Larchmere PorchFest from 1 p.m. until the last bus on Saturday only. Wristbands will be sold at both events.

United Way’s Day of Action “Stuff the Bus with Books” is a great way to help Cuyahoga County’s kids read all summer and get involved in accessing the vast resources at their local libraries. Join the United Way, the Indians, RTA and other local sponsors and support youths by dropping off gently used children’s and young adult books at Rally Alley at Progressive Field. RTA's Community bus will be ready for your donations.

Travel tips:

For light-rail service east of Shaker Square: RTA crews are working on a major upgrade to two track crossings on Shaker Square, so replacement buses (67R) will serve all stations east of Shaker Square on the Green and Blue lines. The replacement buses will operate during the same hours as the Blue/Green line.

The two-day Shaker Heights Arts & Music Festival is close to two stations -- Farnsleigh and Warrensville-Van Aken. Look for bus stop signs marked 67R, and board the replacement buses there. Larchmere PorchFest is close to the Shaker Square Station, which will remain open all weekend.

For Tribe fans heading to the game and supporting “Stuff the Bus with Books,” free parking is available at RTA Rapid Stations. Buy an All-Day Pass -- $5 Adults, $2.50 seniors & kids 6-12 years old, kids under six free.

  • West Side Red Line: Ride the Rapid into Tower City.
  • East Side Red Line: Park at the Rapid Station. Look for bus stop signs -- and buses -- that say 66R.
  • Light-rail service east of Shaker Square: Look for bus stop signs -- and buses, that say 67R.
  • From Tower City to Shaker Square: Board the light-rail trains.
