 News & Updates | Newsroom News & Updates: Newsroom Wednesday, May 31, 2000 Media Advisory...RTA installs first bike rack in test projectCLEVELAND --."Rack-N-Roll," a pilot project to see how bike racks will work on buses, starts rolling at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 1. That is when the first bike rack will be mounted on the front of a 40-foot bus at the Hayden garage, a facility of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA). This summer, operators will test the bus on the road in a number of areas. For instance, they want to see how the rack affects bus maneuverability. Commuters will not be using the bike racks this summer. If the project goes well, RTA plans to purchase an unspecified number of bike racks to use in 2001. Representatives of local groups that lobbied RTA for the project will be present Thursday, and they will bring their bikes. To reach the Hayden garage from downtown, just hop on the #6 bus, or take the Red Line from Tower City to Windermere. For those media folks who are not yet "car-free", drive east on Euclid Avenue to East Cleveland City Hall, 14340 Euclid Ave. Turn north on the road leading to the Windermere station, which is clearly visible from Euclid Ave. Drive past the Windermere station to the Hayden garage.
