employees to Winter Olympics CLEVELAND -- A total of 17 employees of the
Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) have been selected to help
provide transportation for athletes and guests at the Winter Olympics in Salt
Lake City next month. RTA officials and Cleveland Mayor Jane L.
Campbell will give the employees a ceremonial send-off at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday,
Jan. 30, in the Board Room at RTA's Main Office Building, 1240 W. Sixth St. A student, Jason Samuel of Cleveland, will sing
the national anthem, among symbolic Olympic torches, Olympic music, and red,
white and blue everywhere. Employee spouses and RTA directors will attend, and
several Cleveland-area Olympians have been invited. RTA will be represented by Board President George
F. Dixon III, CEO & General Manager Joe Calabrese, and ATU Local 268
officer Gary Johnson. RTA is also loaning 20 new buses to help provide
transportation. The buses will be returned when the Games are over. A bus
similar to the ones on loan will be parked outside the RTA building. The employees are using vacation time to
volunteer at the Games. There is no cost to RTA for the employees volunteering,
