approves major contract for Euclid Corridor work CLEVELAND – Today, the Board of Trustees of the Greater Cleveland
Regional Transit Authority (RTA) approved a major $22.66 million contract for
the first section of work on Euclid Avenue. Work is expected to start in
March and last 21 months. “This is really great news for
Cleveland,” says CEO & General Manager Joe Calabrese. “The most famous
street in Cleveland’s history is getting a facelift, and a fine local firm is
doing the work. We want to deliver a project that will bring pride to all
Clevelanders.” Terrace Construction Co., 3965
Pearl Road, was the low bidder to remake Euclid Avenue, from storefront to
storefront, for the 2-mile stretch from the Innerbelt bridge to through Midtown
Cleveland to E. 79th St. Initial work will be on the
north side of Euclid Ave., between the Innerbelt and E. 55th St. The firm has already done
water and sewer replacement for the City of Cleveland along
Euclid Ave., as well as major projects for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT)
and NASA Glenn. More than 20 percent of the
work will be done by Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs). Other major construction
packages should be advertised for bids within 60 days. RTA’s new Silver Line will be
fully operational in late 2008. The $200-million project is a
combined effort of the Federal Transit
Administration, ODOT, the City of Cleveland, the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency
(NOACA) and RTA. FOR
