Oct. 2: RTA ready for first Tribe post-season game since 2007

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians are ready for their first post-season game since 2007, and so is RTA.

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) has supplied first-class service to all 81 Tribe home games this season, and officials said that service will continue in the post-season.

A wild-card playoff game against Tampa Bay begins at 8:07 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Progressive Field, before a sell-out crowd of 43,345 fans eager for a win.

Will RTA have enough service for the game? Yes.

If the game runs late, will I be stranded downtown? No.

Before the game

  1. The Indians encourage all fans to wear red in a show of team support.

  2. RTA offers free parking at many Rapid Stations. The lots may still be filled with downtown commuters. Obey all parking signs.

  3. To make your trip go smoothly, buy a $5 All-Day Pass. It will ease the customer flow after the game. RTA staff will be on hand at major passenger facilities to help.

  4. RTA operates rush-hour level service until 6 p.m. After that, customer loads will be closely monitored and increased as needed.

  5. 3-8 p.m., Talk shows on WMMS, WTAM and Sports Time Ohio will originate from the Gateway area.

  6. 4:30 p.m., RTA opens the Walkway from Tower City to Gateway. (Note the earlier time).

  7. 4:30 p.m., Pre-game activities begin at Gateway Plaza, with refreshments by Budweiser.

  8. 5:30 p.m., A U2 tribute band begins playing at Gateway Plaza.

  9. 6 p.m., Gates open at Progressive Field. Each fan will receive a white rally towel, courtesy of Progressive Insurance.

  10. 8 p.m., Former Tribe slugger Andre Thornton will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

  11. 8:07 p.m., Play ball! The game will be broadcast nationally on TBS.

After the game

  1. RTA has a long-standing policy that Rapid service continues for at least 90 minutes after an event ends.

  2. If the game goes into extra innings and ends at 2 a.m., there will be service from Tower City until at least 3:30 a.m., or as long as needed to clear the platforms.

  3. Supervisors at Tower City will monitor the customer flow, and increase service levels as needed.
