12 new poems
selected for round 2 of Moving Minds
CLEVELAND – Since September 2004, customers of the
Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) have enjoyed original poems and
unique artwork while commuting to and from work.
This month, the landscape will
change.
12 new poems and bus cards
will be unveiled at a reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, at RTA’s
Main Office Building, 1240
W. Sixth St.
Moving Minds: Verse and Vision
Project is a joint effort of RTA’s Citizen Advisory
Board, the Poets and Writers League of
Greater Cleveland and the Cleveland
Chapter of the American Institute of Graphic
Arts.
PWLGC
coordinated the poetry portion of the contest, calling for entries and
overseeing the judging. The AIGA
sought students from Kent State’s School of
Visual Communication Design to develop layouts for each poem. The winning
entries will be displayed on RTA trains and buses for the next year.
The
winning poems are:

- Say by Mollie Chambers of Westlake
- Traffic by Marcy Campbell of Wooster
- A Toast by Susan Rzepka Orion of Lyndhurst
- Eat Sleep Ride by Leslie Schultz of Twinsburg
- Smokin! by Cavana Faithwalker of Cleveland
- Of Sleep by Jo Steigerwald of Cleveland
- Inosmnia by Catherine Anderle Shaker Heights
- I saw a man on my way to work by Austin Kleon of Cleveland Heights
- Fireflies by Paula Lambert of Mansfield
- Joy by Lou Suarez of Sheffield Lake
- Moon Meter by Beth Wolfe of Avon Lake
