Catherine Eaton's journey from bus operator to district director
Today, we celebrate National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Here at RTA, we have the second largest law enforcement unit in Cuyahoga County! RTA Transit Police work 24/7 to ensure the safety of our community. The Transit Police Department was formed to protect and serve the nearly 50 million passengers who ride RTA each year. Transit Police respond to and investigate all crimes directly related to RTA or occurring on RTA property, including the buses, trains, facilities and right-of-ways.
“New Year, New Me” is a phrase heavily used around this time of the year. But what does that really mean? For some it may be to start eating healthier, going to the gym, or even spending more time with their loved ones. There are obvious benefits to all of these New Year’s Resolutions, but what about taking advantage of RTA’s public transportation?
There is always something happening in Cleveland, especially during the holiday season! There are opportunities for holiday fun everywhere, especially by participating in one of the many runs throughout the city or simply strolling through downtown to check out the holiday decorations. Some of the best displays are on Public Square, including the iconic Christmas Story holiday display in the JACK Casino windows.

RTA and other public transit agencies are committed to raising awareness of this problem, and joining in the fight to eliminate it.
In light of tragic events across the country, RTA and Transit Police are continuing their commitment to the safety of customers, passengers, and employees.
Building on the "See something, Say Something" campaign of DHS, RTA has been working with a vendor, CBTS, to offer a safe and discreet way to notify Transit Police Dispatchers of suspicious or criminal activities via text message.
Our staff gets a lot of questions during the winter months regarding service. We’ve compiled a list of the most common questions to help you plan for the cold weather:
Officer Daniel Cooke is one of RTA’s finest Transit Police officers, with a love for his community and the people in it. He has found a passion for police patch trading that has led him to meet great people near and far. Officer Cooke was first approached by a Highway Patrol Officer 2 years ago at the RNC to trade department patches. Without much information on the topic, hestarted to investigate on social media and realized there is an entire world of police patch traders.
