Pink Patch Project

Oct 19, 2018

• One in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
• Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women.
• Each year it is estimated that over 252,710 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and more than 40,500 will die.

These facts and figures are a scary reality that we face, and unfortunately, most of us know someone who has been affected by breast cancer in their lifetime.

Throughout October, which is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, RTA Transit Police joined more than 320 public safety agencies nationwide by participating in the Pink Patch Project, a targeted campaign to raise funds and awareness to support breast cancer research, education and treatment.

This project hit especially close to home, with one of our own Transit Police Dispatchers succumbing to the disease in 2016.

These limited edition pink Transit Police patches were created and purchased by a group of staff and officers within RTA using their own personal funds.

Patches can be purchased at Novak Supply LLC, located at 2701 Meyer Ave., Cleveland, OH 44109, conveniently just off W. 25th St. near downtown Cleveland. Patches are $10 each with all proceeds benefitting The Gathering Place. The Gathering Place offers a variety of free programs and services to individuals and families coping with the impact of cancer.

Pink Transit Police Patches are available while supplies last, or until October 31, 2018.
