National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

Jan 9, 2019

Today, we celebrate National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Here at RTA, we have the second largest law enforcement unit in Cuyahoga County! RTA Transit Police work 24/7 to ensure the safety of our community. The Transit Police Department was formed to protect and serve the nearly 50 million passengers who ride RTA each year.  Transit Police respond to and investigate all crimes directly related to RTA or occurring on RTA property, including the buses, trains, facilities and right-of-ways. Aside from the Chief and Command Staff, RTA Transit Police is divided into 3 divisions: Administrative, which includes Fare Enforcement and the Dispatch Center; Specialized Units, includes Homeland Security Unit, Emergency Services Team, CBRNE Response Team, Detective Bureau, K-9 Unit, Anti-Terrorism Team, Kidwatch/Community Outreach team; and Patrol, which includes a Traffic Unit, Patrol Officer Unit and Community Resource Officers. All of us here at RTA would like to thank our phenomenal Law Enforcement team for putting their lives on the line every day to protect ours.
