Tahisha McWilson is not only an excellent Bus Operator, she's also a true community hero.

In the early afternoon of August 24, 2023, McWilson was on her southbound route on E. 105 at Ashbury, when she noticed something out of the ordinary. As she pulled up to the stop, McWilson spotted a small boy wandering around looking lost. Concerned for his safety, McWilson took immediate action, getting off the bus to approach the child and assess the situation. She was able to connect with the child and gather important information to share with a GCRTA Transit Police Officer and Service Quality Field Supervisor as they arrived on the scene.

In situations like the one Hayden Operator Tahisha McWilson faced, collaboration between Service Quality and Transit Police is vital. As soon as Operator McWilson notified Service Quality about the lost child on her bus, they immediately responded to her call. Upon arrival, the Service Quality Field Supervisor was briefed by Operator McWilson of the situation and knew then it was necessary to contact GCRTA Transit Police to the scene. GCRTA’s Transit Police played a crucial role in reuniting the lost child with his family.

In the midst of the unexpected event of encountering a lost child, Operator McWilson's top priority was not only the safety and well-being of the young boy but also the responsibility of delivering her passengers to their destinations on time. McWilson informed riders they could transfer to the bus behind hers to continue their ride. Her quick thinking and compassionate actions helped save a lost 5-year-old boy while simultaneously ensuring the well-being of the other passengers aboard her bus.
