GCRTA Celebrates Our Essential Workforce on National Transit Employee Appreciation Day

Cleveland, OH – On Friday, March 22, 2024, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA), will honor their employees for Transit Employee Appreciation Day.

Transit workers play a critical role in keeping our communities moving. These mobility heroes help citizens access vital medical appointments, job opportunities, recreational outlets, and educational classes every day. They operate buses, trains, paratransit, trolleys, and a myriad of other forms of transportation options, in a safe, affordable, and timely manner.

"Transit employees should be regarded as hometown heroes, keeping the lifeline of our region moving," said GCRTA Board President, Rev. Charles P. Lucas, Pastor Emeritus, St. James AME Church. "They serve as daily reminders of the good in all of us, personified in the faces of the many operators, mechanics, laborers, ambassadors, police, and administrators that serve us every day, without fail. Each one of them brings incredible skill and ability, contributing to GCRTA's positive impact on Greater Cleveland."

"We are fortunate to have some of the very best transit workers in our state keeping GCRTA moving forward," said GCRTA General Manager & CEO India L. Birdsong Terry. "Around the clock and in all kinds of weather, our transit workers operate complex routing schedules, repair heavy duty vehicles, provide stellar customer service and ensure smooth operations here at GCRTA. I am continually appreciative of their hard work and dedication to our community."

As we approach GCRTA’s celebration of Transit Employee Appreciation Day on Friday, March 22nd, please take a moment to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to GCRTA transit operators, ambassadors, custodial and maintenance crews, security and administrative personnel, and anyone else you see that helps keep our systems going.

Note: The official National Transit Employee Appreciation Day is on March 18, 2024. To ensure staff appreciation efforts do not get overshadowed by St. Patrick's special event activities and scheduling, GCRTA selected to celebrate the day on Friday, March 22, 2024.
