The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) will hold a ceremony to commemorate the groundbreaking of its East 79th Blue and Green Line Station reconstruction project on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 1:30pm to 3:00pm. The ceremony will take place at GCRTA’s East 79th Blue and Green Line Station located at 2870 East 79th Street, Cleveland, OH 44104.
Speaking at the ceremony will be Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11), a longtime supporter of mobility enhancement for Cleveland's east side.
The E. 79th Street Blue and Green Line Station was built in the early 1980’s and serves GCRTA’s light rail system on the east side of the City of Cleveland, located between Opportunity Corridor and Kinsman Road. Primary goals of the project include rehabilitation of the station, bringing it into compliance with current ADA standards, improvement of connections into the neighborhood and increased Transit Oriented Development opportunities for the future.
This station reconstruction project is funded by an $8M Grant through the All Stations Accessibility Program (ASAP) and with an additional $2M from GCRTA.
“This investment identifies the essential role of transit in keeping our communities and economy advancing forward as we continue building a workforce-ready greater Cleveland area,” said GCRTA General Manager and Chief Executive Officer India L. Birdsong Terry.
