GCRTA Honors AAPI Heritage Month with Special Bus Stop Signs

May 1, 2025

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) is honoring Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage month with special bus stop signs on the #9 – Mayfield-Hough bus route.

Sixteen (16) bus stops along Payne Avenue between E.30th Street and E.55th Street will be individually decorated with artwork that reflects the diaspora of AAPI heritage. The artwork will consist of eight (8) different designs that will feature aspects of the various AAPI cultures by using unique patterns, colors and animals.

The Payne Avenue area has the largest concentration of AAPI residents in Cleveland, Ohio and is commonly known as Cleveland’s AsiaTown neighborhood. The #9 Mayfield-Hough bus route along Payne Avenue provides a transit service seven days a week.

“GCRTA honors and uplifts the vibrant culture and contributions of our Asian American & Pacific Islander community in the greater Cleveland area,” said Deputy General Manager Administration & External Affairs, Dr. Natoya Walker Minor. “As a public agency, we know and believe public transit benefits everyone.”
