Humble Beginnings

In 2001, Jeffrey Grubb completed his associate degree program at the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics, specializing in aviation maintenance technology. During this period, Grubb engaged in various mechanical roles, drawing on his passion for working on motor vehicles, a hobby inspired by his childhood experiences on his family's farm, where he fixed tractors.

Seeking a career shift, he returned home to Cleveland, Ohio, in 2007. For a brief period, Grubb applied his mechanical skills as a mechanic at a local bowling alley.

Career at GCRTA

In 2007, Jeffrey Grubb commenced his career as a mechanic for fixed-route buses at the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA), stationed at the Central Bus Maintenance Facility (CBM). In 2010, he transitioned to the GCRTA Rail facility, taking on the role of a Mechanic.

By 2012, he advanced to a Grade-Four Mechanic at the GCRTA Hayden facility. During his second time at the GCRTA CBM location in 2014, Grubb earned a promotion to Grade-Five Lead Mechanic, occasionally serving as a fill-in supervisor in the Engine Replacement Department. His responsibilities included rebuilding engines and battery packs for hybrid electric buses. A hybrid-electric bus is a bus that combines a conventional internal combustion engine propulsion system with an electric propulsion system. These types of buses normally use a diesel-electric powertrain and are also known as hybrid diesel-electric buses.

In addition to his hands-on work, he began imparting his knowledge to other mechanics, teaching them about bus equipment. Over the years, Grubb learned more about project management skills. In 2018, following his manager's retirement, he began the role of Engine Replacement Supervisor at CBM. In 2019, he was given the Assistant Equipment Manager position at the GCRTA Hayden location.

In 2022, Grubb returned to the GCRTA CBM location as the Assistant Equipment Manager. Eleven months later, he received an offer to become the Acting Equipment Manager at the GCRTA Rail location. He also now plays a role in the leadership safety training observations program (STOP) team. This initiative trains employees to conduct STOP audits and enhances safety awareness within the agency. Grubb is also recognized by his peers for his flexibility, quick learning abilities, and dedication to mentoring his colleagues.
