June 22, 2015: Red Line service modified on West Side this week

Jun 22, 2015

CLEVELAND -- Rapid riders on the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) should be aware of several changes on West Side Red Line this week, due to needed track work and the start of Brookpark Station construction.

  • On Wednesday evening, June 24, through Thursday, June 25, Red Line trains between Tower City and the Airport will operate with a frequency of every 30 minutes after 8 p.m. Regular 15-minute evening service will resume Friday, June 26.
  • Renovation of the Brookpark Rapid Station begins Thursday, June 25, with the temporary closure of the smaller parking lot on the station’s west side. Crews will re-stripe and reconfigure parking spaces for handicap accessibility and to accommodate a temporary bus turn around. The west side lot re-opens on Monday, June 29, as the new bus loop and ADA parking area. Each weekday, about 56 buses on routes 22, 54, 78 and 86 serve the station. Only ADA customers will be permitted to park in the 40+ ADA spaces in the west side lot. All other customers should park in the large east side parking lot. This move will free up space on the station’s east side for staging construction equipment. Details.
  • On Saturday and Sunday, June 27 -28, buses will replace Red Line trains between Tower City and the Airport. The 66R buses will stop at all stations at the special 66R stop signs. The stop for Tower City is located on Public Square in front of the Horseshoe Casino. The stop for the Airport is located in the Limo Lot between the Terminal and the Smart Parking Garage. The 66R bus schedule will be similar to the rail schedule, however, allow extra travel time to reach your destination.  Regular West Side Red Line rail service will resume with the start of service on Monday, June 29.

Construction Ahead: Train Speed Reduced

Due to the number of rail construction projects underway, RTA has reduced the speed limit in work zones for the safety of customers and workers until needed track improvements are completed. To help you make your connections and reach your destinations on time, all EASTBOUND Red Line trips will leave all WEST SIDE stations 3 minutes earlier than the times on the timetable dated May 24. New timetables with a June 22 effective date are available online, with printed copies available as soon as possible.
