 May 30: Waterfront Line opens seven days a week

May 28, 2013

CLEVELAND -- The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) announces seven day a week service for the Waterfront Line starts this week.

On Thursday, May 30, the Waterfront Line resumes service 7 days a week, to serve tenants as they begin to move into the Flats East Bank development. The Waterfront Line runs from Tower City to the South Harbor Station in the Municipal parking lot. It is an extension of the Blue and Green lines.

Weekday service will operate from 6:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m., with trains every 15 minutes.

Weekend and holiday service will operate from 9 a.m.- 10:30 p.m.

Hours may be extended for specific special events. The new schedule is posted on http://www.riderta.com/routes/waterfrontline

The Waterfront Line began service in July 1996. As of April 2010, because of low ridership, service was reduced to weekends and special events.

Now, the Flats East Bank development is well under way and RTA officials are resuming seven day a week service on the Waterfront Line.

A major tenant is Ernst & Young. Their 23-story tower, with 2,100 employees, is directly across the street from the Flats East Bank Station. The company is a client in RTA’s Commuter Advantage program. The building includes an open-air rooftop deck for tenants.

Other tenants in the $275 million first phase are:

* Tucker Ellis, also a Commuter Advantage client.

* A 150-room boutique Aloft hotel by Starwood.

* A variety of restaurants and entertainment venues.

* A 16,000+ square foot health club.
