Today’s highlights of the RTA Board Committee meeting
CLEVELAND – Here are highlights of today’s Committee
meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit
Authority.
Finance Committee
Michael
J. Schipper, Deputy General Manager, Engineering and Project Management, updated
Committee members on RTA’s progress in spending federal stimulus funds
from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 for major
capital improvements.
Gale
Fisk, Executive Director, Office of Management and Budget, presented the
Fiscal Year 2010 tax budget. A public hearing was also held. The
Committee approved the tax
budget, which will be presented to the full Board on July 21. The tax
budget is an estimate of revenue for 2010. Detailed meetings on the 2010
budget will be held in November and December, and another public hearing
will be held in December.
Planning and Development Committee
Maribeth
Feke, Director of Programming and Planning, updated
the Committee on the
procurement of public art for the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Transit Center (formerly
known as the East Side Transit Center) at Cleveland State University. The
project will use federal stimulus funds from the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. The Committee agreed with the
recommendation of the Arts in Transit Committee, to have a special
layered statue of the Congresswoman at the facility. The public art issue,
and the facility construction contract, go to the full Board on July 21.
If approved, groundbreaking will be held on Sept. 10, the Congresswoman’s
birthday.
Operations Committee
Michael
York, Deputy General Manager, Operations, updated the Committee on
the first six months of experience on the HealthLine, which opened Oct. 24,
2008.
