News & Updates | Newsroom News & Updates: Newsroom RTA news July 22, 2009 Ride the Rapid to see the President CLEVELAND – The Greater Cleveland Regional
Transit Authority (RTA) today released this statement. Organizers of Thursday's visit by President Obama are encouraging
the 2,000 expected ticket holders to use RTA's Blue and Green Lines
to get to the event at Shaker Heights High School, 15911
Aldersyde Road. Doors
open at 12:15 p.m. The event is scheduled to start at 2:15 p.m., and last about
an hour. "Whenever
a presidential motorcade passes through a city, it causes traffic delays,"
says Transit Police Chief John P. Joyce. "Plan to arrive as early as
seating allows." Several RTA stations serve the high school, but the
closest station is Onaway, on the Blue Line. It is about four-tenths of a mile
from the high school. Other stations with good access are Ashby on the Blue
Line, and South Park and Lee on the Green Line. Transit
Police are assisting a host of other law enforcement agencies in providing
security for the event. FOR MEDIA INQUIRIES ONLY: ·
