RTA offers fast, convenient service to Indians home opener

CLEVELAND -- The Indians open their home season at 1:05 p.m. Monday, April 2, against the Chicago White Sox at Jacobs Field.

This season, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) again offers fast, convenient bus and rail service to all Indians' home games.

Hop on the bus

RTA provides "Gateway Flyer" bus service from seven locations. Fans can park for free, pay $1.50 each way, and be dropped off across from Jacobs Field on Sumner Avenue. After the game, buses will be waiting there to take fans back home.

For many weekend games, RTA will take fans to Jacobs Field with their new over-the-road MCI buses. These buses feature high-back reclining seats, overhead storage racks, tray tables, individual reading lights, air-conditioning vents, and are handicapped accessible.

Buses leave these locations one hour before game time. For the Solon Park-N-Ride lot, they leave 65 minutes before game time.

• Euclid Park-N-Ride lot, on Babbitt Road, west of St. Clair Ave., across from Super Kmart.
• Solon Square lot, on Aurora Road (Rt. 43) at Solon Blvd. Park in designated RTA area in the middle of the parking lot.
• Parmatown Mall, by Ridgewood Road and Ames Road, near Dillards.
• Strongsville Park-N-Ride lot, Pearl Road entrance to the Ohio Turnpike.
• Brecksville Municipal Parking lot, Brecksville Road (Rt. 21), south of Royalton Road (Rt. 82).
• Great Northern Park-N-Ride lot , south side of Lorain Road (Rt. 10), west of Brookpark Road, by Chi-Chi's Restaurant.
• Westlake Park-N-Ride lot, on Sperry Road, near the Columbia Road exit of I-90.

RTA also provides regular bus service to all sides of Jacobs Field, as well as to Tower City and RTA's Ronald J. Tober Walkway to Gateway.

Riding the rails

Fans can park free in the more than 7,000 spaces at RTA rail stations, and take the Rapid Transit to the game. RTA offers rush-hour level service before each game, which means the trains run every few minutes.

For night games, the last trains leave Tower City 90 minutes after the game ends. Fans can also park in the Municipal lots by the Shoreway, and ride the Waterfront Line to Tower City.

From Tower City

RTA's 1,050-foot Walkway protects fans from traffic and the weather. The Walkway begins at the Tower City food court and ends in the Gund Arena lobby, just a short walk from Jacobs Field. The Walkway remains open for 90 minutes after the end of a game.

What's the cost?

Parking is free at RTA rail stations and Park-N-Ride facilities. For most passengers, the bus or rail fare is $1.50 each way. Please have exact change.

Under RTA's Family Fare Discount Plan, an adult pays full fare, and then pays an additional $1 for up to three children, age 6-15. Up to three children, age 5 and younger, ride for free.

Senior citizens, disabled persons and Medicare cardholders can apply for a RTA ID card. After they receive their ID card, all rides are just 50 cents.
