RTA plans July 11 hearing to discuss # 821 Circulator

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS – The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) will hold a public hearing on July 11 to describe changes and receive comments on a proposed reconfiguration of the # 821 University Circle/Heights Area Community Circulator.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on July 11 at the Community Center, 1 Monticello Blvd. at Mayfield Road, Cleveland Heights. That site is:

  • Served by RTA bus routes # 7, # 9 and # 40.
  • Wheelchair accessible.

Interpretive services for the hearing-impaired will be available.

The problem:

  • “The #821 is a very poor performing route, “says Michael York, Deputy General Manager of Operations.
  • “After three years, the ridership is just not up to what we anticipated.”
  • “The weakest link is the portion between University Circle and Shaker Square.”

The solution:

·         York says, “One proposal is to reconfigure the route and use the resources that currently serve Shaker Square to extend the service to Severance Towne Center.”

·         ”RTA is always seeking ways to maximize the use of our limited resources.”

·         “If this proposal is implemented, the proud and historic Shaker Square area will still have plenty of bus and rail service, and we look forward to continuing to serve our many loyal customers there.”

If you cannot attend:

  • Mail written comments to the RTA Marketing and Communications Department, 1240 W. Sixth St., Cleveland, Ohio 44113.
  • Send e-mail comments to public-comment@gcrta.org.
  • Comments received by July 25 will be part of the official record.

The Circulator began service June 30, 2003.
