July 11, 2006 3 new Board members sworn in CLEVELAND – Cuyahoga County Commissioners have
appointed three new Board members to the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit
Authority (RTA). Jane Campbell of
Cleveland, Nick “Sonny” Nardi of Broadview Heights and Julian A. Rogers of
Cleveland Heights were sworn in today, for terms ranging from 1-3 years. The 10-member RTA Board also includes: ·
Four appointees from the City of Cleveland. ·
Three appointees from the suburban mayors and
city manager. Members are paid $400 per month. The new
appointees replace Charles Patton, Allan Krulak and Beverly Burtzlaff. Jane Campbell,
term expires March 2007 A veteran public official, Campbell, 53, served
as Cleveland’s Mayor from 2002-2006. As Mayor, she
created a lakefront plan, brought new technology to the safety forces, balanced
the budget, and worked with the private sector to set the stage for $3 billion
in new construction in Cleveland. Last spring, she was named a JFK Fellow at the Harvard University School of Government. She now operates
her own consulting business. She was the youngest woman in history be elected
to the Ohio House of Representatives,
where she served for 12 years. She also served five years as a Cuyahoga County
Commissioner. Previously, she was the founding Executive
Director of WomenSpace, Executive Director of the Friends of Shaker Square local
development corporation, and a founding member of the Cleveland Neighborhood Development Corp. Although a native of Michigan, she moved to
Cleveland before she was a year old, and graduated from local public schools.
She earned her bachelor’s degree magna cum laude at the University of Michigan, and her master’s
degree at Cleveland State University. She was named Public Official of the Year by
Governing Magazine, and One of 80
women to watch in the 80s by Ms.
Magazine. She has won numerous other awards. Nick
“Sonny” Nardi,
term expires March 2008 A veteran labor leader, Nardi, 46, has been a
member of the International Brotherhood of
Teamsters since 1981. He became a Trustee and Business Agent of Local 415
in 1981, Vice President of Local 416 in 1992, and Secretary-Treasurer of Local
