RTA Trustees meet July 18

CLEVELAND -- The Board of Trustees of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) will meet at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18, at RTA's Main Office, 1240 W. Sixth St.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Board will select a vice president to replace Beverly Burtzlaff.

The Board will consider resolutions to:

  • Approve the 2007 tax budget of anticipated revenues. A public hearing to discuss the budget begins at 8:30 a.m.
  • Approve a contract with PepsiAmericas to service 30 vending machines at rail stations, Park-N-Ride lots and transit centers, for three years, with two one-year options. This contract generates about $97,000 per year in revenue for RTA.
  • Authorize an increase to a contract to purchase 45 buses from the North American Bus Industries (NABI). The $445,000 increase on the $97.8 million contract will allow RTA to add five internal and three external video cameras on each bus, as part of a Shiftwatch state-of-the-art taping system. The buses will arrive later this year.

·         Award a $1.75 million contract to Schirmer Construction Co. of North Olmsted to rebuild the 90-year-old East 121st Street bridge over light-rail tracks near Shaker Blvd. More than 15 percent of the work would go to DBEs.

·         Purchase 12 advanced mobile data terminals for Transit Police detectives, for $39,000. A security grant will cover the cost

·         Establish a DBE goal of 18 percent for Federal Fiscal Year 2007. Background

  • Authorize the General Manager to enter into an agreement with area school districts to purchase student farecards at a special price. To qualify, districts must purchase moré than 1 million farecards and pay for them before the school year begins. The special prices will help districts manage their budgets.
