Anthony Garofoli took his seat as Executive Director of Internal Audit in 1996, with 15+ years of prior experience. He currently oversees seven employees and provides services across a wide breadth of departments. Mr. Garofoli dedicates himself to provide independent, objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve GCRTA operations; to enhance and protect organizational value by providing risk-based and objective assurance, advice, and insight; and, to detect and deter waste, fraud, abuse, and misconduct in GCRTA programs and personnel to promote economy and efficiency in those programs.
Mr. Garofoli received his Bachelors from Cleveland State University. Prior to boarding with GCRTA, he served as Deputy Audit Manager for the Ohio Auditor of State from 1981 until 1996. There, he gained experience auditing public transit agencies among other state agencies, as well as local governments up to the county level. In 1992, he became a Certified Fraud Examiner and Certified Government Financial Manager before beginning his journey with GCRTA.
Mr. Garofoli is highly committed to his profession, serving as Officer to both Institute of Internal Auditors and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. He is an active member of the Northeast Ohio Chapter of the Information System Audit and Control Association, the Internal Audit Committee of the American Public Transportation Association, and the FBI Roundtable’s Infoguard forum. To support his community, Garofoli is a Youth Coach for Gesu Catholic School.
