Transit is Essential | We Move People

Ohio Loves Transit

Every segment of Ohio – businesses, communities, individuals and families – benefits from public transportation, an essential service that enhances economic development, ensures sustainable lifestyles and a higher quality of life.

Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) provides more than 32 million trips each year, helping to create and maintain jobs that are essential in keeping our communities strong. We connect friends and neighbors to jobs, schools, medical appointments and much more. Whether delivering groceries or providing a ride to get a vaccine…we are a lifeline for our community.

We are a vital link for people with disabilities, providing rides to work, job training programs, medical appointments and adult day care facilities.

We continue to meet the daily mobility needs of Ohio’s growing senior population as well as keep up with the capital need to move workers, students and those without access to their own vehicles.

Our agency works to ensure all citizens have access to the transportation services they need to remain an active part of the community.

Transit drives our economy, with statistics showing that every $1 invested in public transit generates $4 in economic return. Whether getting to area shopping centers, local airports, libraries, parks, bike trails, or countless other destinations—transit will get you there.

Ohio loves transit and Ohio needs transit… now, more than ever.

As Ohio's only provider of rail for public transportation, our system has proven to be one of our region’s greatest assets for mobility enhancement for Greater Cleveland residents,” said India Birdsong, CEO and General Manager of GCRTA.  “We are a resource that offers mobility options to residents as they journey to school, work, healthcare and a host of other essential destinations each day,” she said.

These are just a few of the reasons why Ohio’s lawmakers are committed to continuing to support public transit.  From February 7 through 14, Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority will celebrate our elected officials and stakeholders as well as our communities and riders during Ohio Loves Transit Week.

The fourth annual Ohio Loves Transit Week will be engaging with the community on our social channels as well as conducting a contest on Instagram, culminating on Ohio Loves Transit Day, Sunday, February 14.

Throughout the week we will utilize our social channels to post interesting facts about our transit services, facts about transit throughout the state as well as why funding is vital for us to provide essential services to the communities we serve.

New this year, we will conduct a contest on Instagram where six lucky winners will receive a #OhioLovesTransit prize pack containing:

  • Ohio Loves Transit Shirt
  • 2 pairs of transit socks
  • A hat
  • Gloves
  • Cookies

To enter, participate must “like” our Instagram page (ridertacleveland), like the post and post a comment telling us who you ride transit with. Each friend you tag on the contest post will give you an entry into the drawing for the prize pack. Note, to be entered participates must complete each of the tasks. However, each additional friend tagged will gain an additional entry into the contest.

Also, during the week, we will ask riders to share why they support public transit and why our state and federal leaders should too.

Ohio Loves Transit Week is hosted by our partner, the Ohio Public Transit Association (OPTA).

OPTA is the primary advocate for public transportation in Ohio. Now with more than 500 members from 68 transit agencies across the state, the association provides leadership, resources, training, support, technical assistance, media outreach, public engagement, and governmental relations services to public and private transit agencies.
