Godwin McNeal Retirement

Sep 29, 2021

Godwin McNeal has had a stellar career at GCRTA. On September 30, 2021, he will pull in his coach to Hayden District for the last time. In his 45 years of service, he has never had a preventable accident. This is by far the longest streak in GCRTA history, and considering Godwin has logged more than 1.3 million miles in his time on the road, is probably longer than most drivers! In addition to his accident-free streak, Godwin has been awarded numerous safety awards including second place for the 2021 Lytx Driver of the Year. Lytx Drivecam Program is an event-based operator performance program, that monitors risky driving behavior on the road.

Godwin “Goodtime” McNeal is a quiet mannered man who clearly loves his job. “He is the definition of a professional operator, with a passion for serving his customers and a safe driving record that cannot be matched. We’re really going to miss seeing him around the district. He has such a great outlook on things, it shines through in everything he does.” says Hayden District Director, Nick Biggar.

He has been featured in The Plain Dealer in 2018 and was even provided the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at a Cleveland Indians game as a reward for his incredible safety record.

We had the opportunity to meet up with Godwin a few days before his retirement to get some photos and you could just see the joy and excitement he has for this next chapter of his life. “I’m really looking forward to the time I’ll get to spend with my family,” says Godwin. “I’ll enjoy having someone else drive me around for a change!” Godwin is an amazing operator and an all around amazing person. GCRTA will miss him on the road, but we wish him well in his retirement!
