The Importance of Intuition: Bus Driver Helps a Lost Child

Operators don't just drive buses – they ensure that each passenger is safely taken to their destination. LoShundra Lykes, a dedicated operator of four years, exemplifies the commitment to GCRTA’s mission of connecting the community.

On a Tuesday morning, while driving the #51 bus, LoShundra encountered a young boy who boarded the coach alone. Trusting her instincts, she asked where the child was going, and he responded that he was headed to Target. After a few minutes, the child stated that they were not going to Target but to Chuck-E-Cheese.

Recognizing the potential risks of a young child traveling unaccompanied, Lykes took immediate action. She contacted GCRTA Service Quality and was advised to stand by. Within approximately 20 minutes, both GCRTA Transit Police and Cleveland Police arrived on the scene.

Thanks to LoShundra's quick thinking and the help of GCRTA Transit Police, along with Cleveland Police, the child was safely reunited with his uncle. Her actions embody the values of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, reinforcing the idea that operators are ambassadors who connect the community, and bring people together.
